A Strong Mission
In 1989, Urth Caffé’s founders, Jilla and Shallom Berkman, met a passionate coffee farmer named Jorge from a farm in Peru producing organic coffee from Heirloom coffee trees that had never been genetically modified. They learned that the destructive practices common to coffee production made it one of the most chemically treated food commodities in the world and decided to become pioneers in health-conscious coffee. They launched the nation’s first exclusively organic, heirloom coffee company with a mission to sell quality organic food sourced from local farmers.

Sustainable Practices
Our business practice is based on sourcing local, sustainable, and whenever possible organic ingredients. Urth enjoys many direct, special relationships with local farmers. Urth Caffé’s menu offers a fresh, healthy, sustainable way of eating, drinking and living by using 100% natural ingredients completely free of any artificial additives or GMOs.

Ingredients Matter
We use the creamiest butter, grass-fed beef, local family free-range vegetarian-fed eggs; organic and hormone-free dairy, seasonal sustainable fruits and organic salad lettuces from the farm brought directly to our cafes each day.

An International Presence
In addition to being a favorite California tradition, Urth Caffé has two locations in Tokyo that specialize in the locally grown teas. On the other side of the planet, Riyadh has just opened a world-class, two-story café that is the first to serve exclusively heirloom, organic coffees in the Gulf Coast Countries. Guests watch as delicious foods, breads and pastries are prepared from scratch on-site each day in the bakery and kitchen.

Great Coffees, Teas and Food
It doesn't matter how strong out mission and practices are, if we don't have great tasting, nicely presented food in a warm and welcoming atmosphere, the customers won't come. You'll have the products, recipes and location you need to succeed, you'll add the special touch that keeps the crew and customers happy, local and excited to bring friends and family to the cafe.

Pictured: Customers can choose from our exclusive selection of fine loose leaf black, fruit scented, oolong, green, white, matcha green teas, and herbal infusions. Each source garden is carefully selected by Urth Caffé based on highest quality, commitment to purity, uniqueness, and sustainability.

Keys to Success

This is an outstanding location that has been well run (the current Manager is opening a brand new cafe). The team is in good shape, but there's still room to make it your own and have an impact. Those with an entrepreneurial mentality and proactive mindset tend to excel in our company.  Once you've learned our operation and your restaurant well, we'll look forward to hearing your strong ideas for improvements.

As you take ownership of the location, you will need to earn credibility and the trust of your team. A heavy-handed style doesn't work here. Instead, our top Store Managers are approachable and hands-on. They jump in where needed but also maintain high expectations of themselves and others. They are also:
  • Excellent communicators who consistently follow-through
  • Committed to service and ensuring customers have an outstanding experience
  • Deadline oriented and highly organized
  • Strong leaders and trainers
